BizPAct Visits-KegalleDuring September 2009 the BizPAct co-ordinator went to meet some of the regional entrepreneurs (with the Sri Lanka blogger, Indi) as a follow up to the symposium held in June of 2009. Kegalle featured in this trip. One project is about the expansion of a costume jewellery business. Priyantha Sisira Kumara has a lot of talent and enthusiasm, and has run his business for over 8 years at Mawanella in the Kegalle District. Though it is a small scale operation run by himself, it has got a wider network of goldsmiths and so he has a lot of creative skills available to him. He wants to expand his business by creating new jewellery designs. Here are some of the pictures that Indi took during this part of the trip.
Mr Chandrasena wants to transform the pottery indsutry in the area from what is essentially a cottage industry into a strealined business operation. He estimates that this will take an investment in the region of Rs4.3million. Urumaya Creations was established in 2005.It produces eco friendly products: Cards, Note Pads, File Folders, Wall Hangers, Handloom Pouches/Bags. For paper products, Urumaya Creations uses recycled paper. It has its own show room at Kegalle town itself. The proprietor, Mr Indika Ranasinghe, is looking to expand into more recycled paper products. Contact us if you interested in getting more information about any of these projects. |
